ROOIBERG BEWARIA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE - ROTATION OF CHAIRPERSON
For the past four years, Herc Hoffman has chaired the Executive Committee of Rooiberg Bewaria. During Herc’s tenure, Rooiberg Bewaria has grown in stature – its membership base has grown threefold to 40 Full Members plus 25 Ordinary Members and 28 Non-Commercial Members and Friends of Bewaria.
At its most recent Executive Committee meeting, it was unanimously agreed that the chairmanship of the Committee should be periodically rotated and that a new Chairman be appointed.
In this regard, your Executive Committee is pleased to announce that Chris Ransome, who has served on the Committee since 2015, was appointed the Chairman of the Committee with effect from 1 May 2019 and that Herc Hoffman will continue to serve on the Committee heading the portfolio of ‘General Operations’.
On behalf of all Rooiberg Bewaria stakeholders, we extend our sincere appreciation for the selfless contribution that Herc has made to the success of Rooiberg Bewaria over the past 4 years and thank him for his continued service in his new role on the Committee.

Dr. Hoffman obtained his MB.ChB in 1973 and MMed (Paed) at the University of Stellenbosch in 1980.
He has a wealth of experience in strategic management, business strategy and management consulting.
He has been in several high-profile positions in the medical industry and is currently the CEO of PPS Health Care Administrators. Herc is a shareholder of a farm in the Rooiberg Area, is a founder member of the Rooiberg Bewaria and accepted the position as chairman of Rooiberg Bewaria in July 2015.

After qualifying as a chartered accountant in South Africa in the mid 1980’s, Rudolf joined Rand Merchant Bank in 1988, and established Treacle Private Equity in 2000 with two partners. Rudolf relocated to Mauritius in 2010 where he is involved in advising international corporates and private equity funds on their investment activities in sub-Sahara Africa.
Rudolf acquired land in the Rooiberg area in late 1999, and was involved in the establishment of Elandsberg Nature Reserve lying north east of Rooiberg with nine neighbouring landowners in 2006. Elandsberg Nature Reserve today comprises of 12 000 hectares, and is a big supporter and beneficiary of the activities of the Rooiberg Bewaria.

Piet manages the day-to-day operations of Rooiberg Bewaria. He completed various qualifications at Pretoria Technicon, Rand Afrikaans University (now known as University of Johannesburg), The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research South Africa (CSIR), South African Police Services and the South African National Intelligence Agency, now known as “State Security Agency”.
He has vast experience of several security, investigations and risk aspects, business management and firefighting, to name but a few. He is also registered with the Private Security Industry Regulating Authority (PSIRA).
CHRIS RANSOME

Chris is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and has a post-graduate qualification in Company Law. He has a wealth of business experience and is the Executive Chairman of various high profile industrial companies. Chris established Rotavi Private Game Reserve in 2005 after selling his previous farm in the Springbok Flats.
Chris is passionate about the Rooiberg Bewaria area as he regards it as a tranquil sanctuary for its wide-ranging fauna and flora, and a privilege for all the people who inhabit it. Chris, together with neighbouring farms, founded and managed the Rhenoster, Fire, Conservation and Security Association (FCSA) in 2008 which principally included the establishment of highly successful boomed and manned monitoring / filter points. The FCSA was subsequently incorporated into Rooiberg Bewaria in 2015, during which year Chris joined as an Exco Member. Chris is also an avid rotor wing pilot.
ANTON DE SWARDT

Dr Anton De Swardt is qualified with BCom Law LLB LLD degrees practising as an attorney in Brooklyn Pretoria and is primary involved in constitutional public administrative and commercial law litigation in different divisions of the High Court of South Africa.
Anton has been farming in the Rooiberg Bewaria area since 2000 and during 2008 he and his wife Sally commenced breeding rare game such as disease-free buffalo, sable antelope, nyala, heart water springbok as well as other plains game including kudu.
They consider their Pretoria home as the weekly “koshuis “residence and spend weekends on the farm where Anton cultivates his deep affection for nature’s fauna and flora. Anton is also qualified as a helicopter pilot who finds the combination of flying with game farming very effective.
ANNELIE BECKER
Administrative Assistant

Annelie is the backbone of Bewaria, she is the hands on, full time front line administrative assistant at the Bewaria office in Rooiberg.
Her inputs as Secretary and Fire Incident Coordinator for the Sector Rooiberg Fire Protection Association, TFPA is invaluable.
Annelie handles all the secretarial administrative and legal requirements for the Sector Rooiberg FPA and all communication during fire related incidents.
She has vast experience in all aspects of Fire prevention, disaster management, Emergency Services, Community Projects and Fundraising.
Before joining the Bewaria family she worked for 27 years at the Communication and Liaison Services of the South African Police Service.
WILLEM BOTHA

Willem was appointed as the manager of Welgedacht Estate in January 2009, a 4 000 hectare farm in Elandsberg Nature Conservancy. Prior to that, he managed Radio Kansel’s camping terrain in Mabula Game Reserve for 7 years.
He is the Chairman and Sector Leader for Sector Rooiberg Fire Protection Association (RFPA) and completed Incident Command courses to manage and direct teams during firefighting in the area.
